Best Gaming PC Under £1,000 in the UK (2026 Build Guide)
By aiden s ·

£1,000 used to buy a very capable gaming PC. In 2026 it still can, but you have to spend it carefully. Memory and SSD prices have shot up, so the usual advice of "get the newest platform" can leave you with a weak graphics card. This guide shows what the best gaming PC under £1000 looks like right now, using real UK part prices from September 2026.
What a £1,000 gaming PC can do
A well-balanced PC at this price is a great 1080p gaming machine. Expect:
- Esports games like Fortnite, Valorant, Rocket League and CS2 at high frame rates, ideal for a 144Hz monitor
- Big single-player games at 1080p with high settings, using DLSS or FSR upscaling in the most demanding titles
- Some 1440p gaming in lighter games, with settings turned down a little
It won't be a 4K machine, and it won't max out every new release at 1440p. For that, look at our gaming PC buying guide for higher budgets.
The best gaming PC under £1000: the build

Here's a gaming PC under £1000 built from parts you can buy today. Prices are UK retail prices checked in September 2026.
| Part | Choice | Approx. price |
|---|---|---|
| Processor | AMD Ryzen 5 5600 (cooler included) | £120 |
| Motherboard | ASRock A520M-HVS | £45 |
| Memory | 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4-3200 | £145 |
| Graphics card | NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 8GB | £370 |
| Storage | Kingston NV3 1TB NVMe SSD | £130 |
| Power supply | Corsair CX550 550W 80+ Bronze | £50 |
| Case | NZXT H5 Flow | £50 |
| Total | about £910 |
That leaves roughly £90 of headroom. You could use it to step up to an RTX 5060 Ti 8GB (about £30 more), or put it towards a Windows 11 licence, which costs around £120.
Why these parts?
The graphics card gets the biggest share
In games, the graphics card does most of the work. The RTX 5060 is the best card that fits comfortably in this budget, with DLSS 4 support that helps a lot in newer games. The RTX 5050 is about £60 cheaper, but it's noticeably slower. If you only play esports titles, it's a fair way to save money.
Why DDR4 and not DDR5?
This is the big 2026 decision. A Ryzen 5 7600 on the newer AM5 platform is a faster processor, and AM5 has a better upgrade path. But the switch costs more than the processor alone:
- 16GB of DDR5 costs about £260, against about £145 for DDR4
- An AM5 motherboard costs about £25 more than a basic AM4 board
That's around £140 extra before you've gained a single frame. At £1,000, that money is better spent on the graphics card. Once memory prices come down, AM5 becomes the better buy again. Our guide to DDR4 vs DDR5 explains it in more detail.
16GB of memory
32GB is nice to have, but with DDR4 32GB kits costing around £210, 16GB is the sensible choice at this budget. It runs almost every game well. You can add more later.
A 1TB NVMe SSD
Modern games are huge, often 100GB or more, so 500GB fills up fast. 1TB is the minimum we'd recommend for gaming.
Don't cheap out on the power supply
A known brand like Corsair or be quiet! is worth the small extra cost. A cheap, unbranded power supply is one of the most common causes of PC failures.
Where to save, and where not to
Every pound matters on a gaming PC under £1000, so it pays to know where corners can safely be cut.
Safe places to save:
- RGB lighting and fancy cases
- A premium motherboard (a basic board is fine for this processor)
- Wi-Fi, if your PC can reach the router with a cable
Places not to save:
- The graphics card
- The power supply
- Storage space (you'll run out of room quickly)
New or used?
At this budget, a good used gaming PC can give you more for your money. A PC built a couple of years ago might come with 32GB of memory and a faster graphics card for the same price. Just check it carefully first: our used gaming PC checklist covers the 12 things to look at before you pay.
Summary
The best gaming PC under £1000 in 2026 is built around a strong graphics card, like the RTX 5060, with a sensible AM4 processor and DDR4 memory to dodge this year's high memory prices. It's a great 1080p machine that will run everything you throw at it.
