The short version
- You pay AS Computers securely online for every PC bought through the site. We only pay a seller once you've got the PC.
- PCs "Sold by AS Computers" come from us, or from a customer we're selling for. Marketplace PCs come from private individuals.
- Your legal rights are different depending on who you buy from - see Three ways to buy and our Returns & refunds page.
- Listing a PC is free. We charge a 5% fee only when a marketplace PC sells through checkout, and 7% (minimum £30.00) when we sell a PC for you.
- Nothing in these terms takes away your legal rights as a consumer.
1. Who we are
This website, ascomputers.co.uk, is run by [legal name to be added] trading as AS Computers ("AS Computers", "we", "us").
- Address: [business address to be added]
- Email: info@ascomputers.co.uk
These terms apply whenever you use the site, buy or sell a PC, ask for a valuation or a custom build. By creating an account or placing an order you agree to them. Please also read our Privacy policy, Returns & refunds and Cookie policy.
2. Your account
- You must be 18 or over and live in the UK to buy or sell on AS Computers.
- Give us accurate details and keep them up to date. You can only have one account.
- Keep your password private. You're responsible for what happens in your account unless someone got in through no fault of yours - tell us straight away if you think your account has been misused.
- You can close your account at any time from Account details, as long as you don't have an order, sale or payout in progress.
- We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, puts other users at risk, or is used for fraud. If we do, we'll tell you why unless the law or a police investigation stops us.
3. Three ways to buy
Every listing shows who is selling. This matters, because it decides who your contract is with and which rights you have.
| Listing says | Who you're buying from | Your main protections |
|---|---|---|
| Sold by AS Computers | Us. It's our own stock. | Full consumer rights, a 14-day right to cancel for online orders, and our 6-month warranty. See section 7. |
| Sold by AS Computers for its owner | A private individual. We list the PC, answer questions and take payment on their behalf. You collect it from them. | You inspect it before handing over your collection code, and our buyer protection applies. |
| Private seller (marketplace) | A private individual, not a business. We provide the website and take the payment. | Our buyer protection. Consumer rights that apply to businesses (such as the 14-day right to cancel) don't apply to private sales, but the PC must be as described. |
The marketplace is for private individuals selling their own PCs. If you sell PCs as a business, you must not use a private listing - contact us first.
4. Prices and payment
- Prices are in pounds sterling. AS Computers is not currently VAT registered, so no VAT is added to our prices. Private sellers aren't businesses and don't charge VAT.
- The delivery charge (if you choose delivery) is shown on the listing and in your basket before you pay. There are no other charges at checkout.
- Payments are handled securely by Stripe. We never see or store your full card details.
- Your order is confirmed when your payment goes through and we email you a confirmation. While you're paying, the PC is reserved for you for up to 30 minutes.
- If we've made an obvious pricing mistake on one of our own PCs, we'll contact you and you can pay the correct price or cancel for a full refund.
- Never pay a seller directly, by bank transfer or cash, for a PC listed on AS Computers. Payments made outside the site aren't covered by our buyer protection.
5. Delivery and collection
Our own PCs
We'll send or have your PC ready to collect as quickly as we can, and tell you when it's on its way. If we can't deliver within 30 days of your order, you can cancel for a full refund.
Marketplace and "We sell it for you" PCs
- If you chose delivery, the seller must post it with a tracked service within 3 days of your payment. We email you the tracking number when they do.
- For collection, the seller (or owner) will arrange a time with you through AS Computers messages. The handover should happen within 7 days.
- If the PC isn't sent or handed over within 2 days after that deadline, we cancel the sale and refund you in full automatically.
- Your collection code: when you collect, you'll give the seller the 6-digit code from your order. Only give it once you've checked the PC and you're happy - giving it confirms you've received it.
- For collections, the PC becomes yours when you collect it. For deliveries, it becomes yours and is your responsibility once it's delivered to you.
6. Buyer protection
For marketplace PCs and PCs we sell for their owners, we hold the seller's money until you've got the PC:
- The sale completes when you confirm you've received it, when you give your collection code, or automatically 14 days after it was sent. Only then is the seller paid.
- If a delivered PC hasn't arrived, is damaged, or is significantly different from the listing, contact us before confirming you've received it. We'll look at the listing, photos, tracking and messages from both sides.
- If we agree it isn't as described, we'll arrange for it to go back to the seller and refund you. We may ask for photos. Where a return is needed, we'll tell you how it will be paid for.
- At collection, you can inspect the PC and switch it on. If it isn't as described, don't hand over your code - tell us and we'll refund you.
- Buyer protection doesn't cover changing your mind about a private sale, or problems caused after you received the PC.
7. PCs sold by AS Computers
- Right to cancel: if you bought online, you can cancel within 14 days of receiving the PC for any reason. See Returns & refunds for how.
- Your legal rights: under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 our PCs must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described. If there's a fault you can reject it for a full refund within 30 days. After that, you're entitled to a repair or replacement, or in some cases a refund.
- Our warranty: we also give a 6-month warranty on PCs we build or sell from our own stock. It covers faults with parts and our workmanship, but not accidental damage, misuse, or software you install. The warranty is in addition to your legal rights, not instead of them.
8. Custom builds
- The price guides on our build pages are estimates based on current part prices. We'll confirm the final specification, price and timescale in a written quote.
- Your contract starts when you accept the quote in your account and we confirm payment. Part prices change often, so if you don't accept a quote promptly we may need to update it.
- If a part becomes unavailable, we'll offer you an equivalent or better part at the same price, or let you cancel for a full refund of anything you've paid.
- Because a custom build is made to your specification, the 14-day right to cancel doesn't apply once we've started building it. Your rights for faulty goods and our 6-month warranty still apply.
9. Selling your PC
- Listing is free. You can have up to 3 live listings at a time.
- You must own the PC and have the right to sell it. It must work as described unless you clearly say otherwise.
- Describe it honestly, including any faults, and use your own photos of the actual PC.
- We check listings before they go live and may refuse or remove any listing, for example if it breaks these terms or the law.
- You must not list: stolen, counterfeit or recalled items; items that aren't PCs or PC parts; or anything illegal to sell.
- When your PC sells through checkout, you must post it (within 3 days) or hand it over (within 7 days) using the steps in your account. If you don't, the sale is cancelled and the buyer refunded.
- Don't sell a PC elsewhere while it's listed with us, and don't ask buyers to pay you outside the site.
- You're responsible for any tax on your sales. By law we may have to report sellers' details and sales to HMRC under the digital platform reporting rules - this usually only applies if you sell 30 or more items, or about £1,700 or more, in a year.
10. "We sell it for you"
- Valuations are our honest estimate of what your PC should sell for. They're free, with no obligation, and valid for 14 days. They're not a guarantee of the final price.
- Your PC stays with you. You add at least 3 photos and tell us where buyers can collect it. We write the listing, set the price with you, and publish it as "Sold by AS Computers".
- We act as your agent. We deal with buyers' questions and take payment for you. The buyer collects the PC from you, and you hand it over only when they give you their collection code.
- If you set a minimum price, we won't sell for less without asking you.
- Keep the PC in the condition shown, don't sell it elsewhere while it's listed, and back up then wipe your data before the buyer collects.
- You can cancel free of charge at any time before it sells.
- Our fee is 7% of the sale price (minimum £30.00), taken from the sale proceeds. There's nothing to pay if it doesn't sell.
11. Seller fees and payouts
- Marketplace sales through checkout: we keep a 5% fee from the sale price. You also receive the delivery charge the buyer paid, to cover postage.
- You're paid once the sale completes (see section 6). We pay by bank transfer to the UK account you add in your account, usually within a few working days of completion.
- If a buyer is refunded because the PC wasn't sent, wasn't as described, or the sale was cancelled, you won't be paid for that sale and no fee is charged.
- If we find a payout was made in error, or a sale later turns out to be fraudulent, we may ask for the money back.
12. Rules for everyone
- Be honest and respectful in listings and messages. No harassment, spam or discrimination.
- Keep conversations and payments on AS Computers. Don't share bank details in messages.
- Don't try to get around fees, interfere with the site, scrape it, or use someone else's account.
- You can report a listing that looks wrong using the "Report" link on it. We may look at messages about a sale when investigating a report or a dispute.
13. Reviews
- Only buyers who have completed a purchase through AS Computers can leave a review, and only for that purchase. Seller ratings shown on the site come only from these verified purchases.
- We publish all genuine reviews, positive and negative. We don't pay for reviews, offer incentives for them, or write them ourselves, and sellers must not either.
- We may remove a review that's fake, abusive, unlawful, includes personal information, or isn't about the purchase. If you think a review breaks these rules, tell us.
14. Our responsibility to you
- If we break these terms, we're responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of that. We're not responsible for losses that weren't foreseeable.
- For marketplace sales and PCs we sell for their owners, the seller is responsible for the PC and its description. Our responsibility is to provide the website and buyer protection as described in these terms.
- We only supply PCs for domestic and private use. If you use one for business, we're not liable for any loss of profit, business or data.
- Please back up your files. We're not responsible for data on a PC you sell or send to us.
- Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that can't be limited by law, including your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
15. Complaints and the law
- If you're unhappy, please contact us. We'll reply within 5 working days and try to put things right.
- These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can bring a claim in your local courts and your local consumer laws still apply.
- We may update these terms, for example to reflect changes in the law or in how the site works. The version shown when you place an order or list a PC is the one that applies to it.
